On Tuesday September 15th, 2020 an Officer with the Seaford Police Department observed Christopher Viruet operating a motor vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue in Seaford. The officer had prior knowledge that Viruet had several warrants for his arrest from Delaware State Police and a Superior Court Capias.
The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which time Viruet fled from the officer causing a vehicle pursuit to ensue. Viruet continued to flee from Officers operating his vehicle in a reckless manner on numerous streets in Seaford, eventually coming to a stop on North Arch Street. It was at this time that Viruet fled from the vehicle on foot to a residence on North Pine Street. The Officer gave chase, locating Viruet at this residence and was able to take him into custody without further incident. During the pursuit Viruet was observed throwing an item from his vehicle, that was located by another Officer, which turned out to be a loaded Glock .357 handgun.
Viruet is a person prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction. Viruet was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of $112,400.00 cash bail. Viruet was also arraigned for the Superior Court Capias and the Delaware State Police Warrants and issued additional cash only bails.
